You see, I can’t quote prices out of context and that’s what I would be doing if I gave you prices over the phone. You would just become more confused about hiring a photographer and I would have failed to help you in your quest to find the right photographer for you. I am here to help you, not hinder you.

The problem is that you won’t really understand what they are all talking about unless you invest your time to meet them and experience them in person, see their products and then you can judge the value! You see, meeting the photographer before you make a hiring decision is a huge part of shopping for value in a photographer! The photographer’s personality and the way he carries and presents himself are important things to experience before you make a hiring decision.
Here’s another important fact to keep in mind when you’re on the phone with a photographer and you press him for prices. If a photographer does give you prices over the phone, here’s the fact; he will give you the lowest possible price or price range that he can, just to get you in the door!

Here’s A Prime Example of What I’m Talking About.
You hire a photographer that won’t meet with you before the photography session because he claims he’s too busy. Actually, he’s treating you like a second class citizen.
His offer is a free photo session and a free photo. He also offers photo packages at different prices. After the photo session is done, you learn that the free photo and the packages are digital images only, (not printed on paper).
The image resolution on the disc you received is so low on the free image that you can’t print it at all. When you try, all you get on the paper is a puddle of ink!
The images in the package you purchased have only slightly better resolution and
the results you get on your home computer (when you try to print them) are garbage!

In summery, if you took only the free photo, you received an image that can’t be printed on paper because of low resolution. This is by design of the photographer.
If you paid for a photo package, you received images on a disc that now have to be printed at some lab the photographer suggests to you, and at additional cost to you. You did not receive a finished product from this photographer!
This photographer tricked you by withholding certain information until (after your photo session) you were too committed to the process, where the photographer had you to the point where you would probably go ahead anyway.
The lesson is buyer beware. Get all information up front! You’ll avoid the kind of garbage!

Giving you prices over the phone would just play into your already existing perception of what you think the photography process is. It would only serve to cause more confusion for you and it would further condition you to shop for and hire a photographer based on prices.
This decision is too important to shop by price and doing so is absolutely, positively the wrong way to hire a photographer.

Price should never be the deciding factor when hiring a photographer. Photography is relative to the photographer doing the work! It’s a customized product made especially for you. The photographer can’t put your portraits up on a shelf and sell them to anyone else! It’s extremely important that you shop for value.
The only way to do that is to meet the photographer, review his work, discover his policy, and decide if you like the photographer’s personality and way of working!

They can’t come up with any magical claims about their cars because their cars are no different than their competitors cars. The only area where car dealers can make themselves different from their competition is in the area of customer service. So that’s where they concentrate their efforts.
So shopping for a car (a commodity product) based on price is the right way to buy a car, but shopping for a photographer (a customized product) that way (based on price) is the wrong way to hire a photographer and will only serve to cause you pain and suffering!
