Here's How I Got Started In The Photography Business Back In 1985
Dynamic Photography was born because I couldn't get a job in television production!
In college I majored in communications with a concentration in television production. After making over a dozen applications to television stations all over New York and New Jersey, it became clear that without real world experience, no television station was going to hire me. They didn't tell me that one in school!
I started using a camera as a 10 year old, photographing my friends in the school yard across the street from my house. I seemed to have a bit of talent for it from the very beginning and I continued with photography as a hobby.
In college I became a communications major and after a little while I selected a concentration in television production. This was the direction I wanted my career to go. I completed my B.A. degree from Hunter College of The City University of New York and my M.A. degree from the New York Institute of Technology.
One day near the end of my junior year in college, a friend of mine re-sparked my interest in photography and I began to consider photography as a career option. However, it was too late for me to go to any kind of photography school (I'm a self- taught photographer) because I was pretty close to graduation and not about to start over!
I did pick up some paying photography jobs by sheer luck or accident, before I finished my masters degree. A local photo processing lab had shown my work to the owner of a furniture manufacturing plant, and I was hired to do some photo work for his company. That was my first paying photo job. Word of mouth spread and within weeks I was hired by a real estate company to photograph their listings. That account lasted about a year and a half, and I was still in school!
After graduation, armed with my masters degree, I began the process of getting a job in television production. It was not to be. The problem was I had no experience in television production, as far as the interviewer was concerned. My school projects didn't count because they wanted "people with real working-condition experience" and not just school projects created in class or during internships.
A catch-22, if I ever saw one! I became annoyed with the application process and realized that my degrees didn't mean a lot in the real world! I later learned that my educational level was higher than many of the people that interviewed me for a job! Too bad I didn't know anyone already in television production to "pull some strings" because after my experience, I think that's the only way to get into television production.
So instead of beating my head against a brick wall, I entered the photography business already with some professional experience under my belt. And (as they say) the rest is history!
Here's the Dynamic Photography secret!
Some people wonder how I can get such consistent results - even with people that "never take a good picture". The secret is enjoying creating the photography itself. Working with a top "people photographer" like me is fun, and when you're having fun, while the photographs are being created... it shows in the photographs!
There is, however, another part to the secret. If success occurs when opportunity meets planning, that method is in full use here. Great photography doesn't happen by accident. Long before your photography takes place, I spend a great deal of time planning your photography. This ensures that everything will go as smoothly as possible and that you get the results you want.
Ultimately, bringing out the best in people is an intuitive talent. Equipment and education can't make up for a lack of talent. While I use the best professional equipment, I am in fact, self-taught. Which is why you won't find "formula based" photography here.
You mean you love doing photography?
Yes! That's exactly what I mean! I love what I do! I'm so confident that I offer you the best guarantee in the photo business! And I will go the extra mile for you, because, unlike most other photographers, I believe that what I do has real lasting value and is important to you!
I will take whatever time is necessary to produce the results you want! Unlike the average run-of-the-mill photographer, I focus my efforts on delivering to you, an overwhelming experience with Dynamic Photography, while removing all the risk for you!
And while my career in television production never materialized, I'm glad I stopped trying to get into television production when I did, and went into photography because I'm getting so much greater enjoyment out of my photography career. Much more than I would ever get from television production.
And you know what makes my photography career so great? It's the people I work with and the joy I see on their faces when I deliver my work! Yes! I absolutely love what I do!
